DHAKA: The government has appointed 105 Supreme Court lawyers in the posts of Assistant Attorney General (AAG).
The Law, Justice and law and Parliamentary affairs ministry has issued a notification in this regard on Sunday (July 7).
According to the notification, 105 SC lawyers have been appointed as Assistant Attorney-General till the issuance of further order.
The notification further said that assistant attorney-generals appointed on June 12, 2007, 27 and 19 assistant attorney-generals appointed on October 25 will be Stay in respective post.
The recruitment of rest of the appointed assistant attorney-generals has been canceled, it added.
Earlier on June 27, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam has given verbal order to all deputy attorney generals (DAGs) and assistant attorney generals (AAGs) appointed before 2017 to resign.
PANCHAGARH: Direct train service on the country’s longest rail route Panchagarh-Dhaka was opened Saturday (May 25).
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched ‘Panchgarh Express’ train through a videoconference from her state residence Ganabhaban, amid formal arrangement, around 1pm.
In the maiden trip, the intercity train left Panchagarh for Dhaka at 1:30pm.
Besides, Panchagarh Rail Station was renamed as Bir Muktijoddha Sirajul Islam Railway Station-Panchagarh.
Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan inaugurated the nameplate at a video conference at the rail station organized by Bangladesh Railway (BR).
Panchgarh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sabina Yasmin, Superintendent of Police (SP) Gias Uddin Ahmed and Railway West Zone General Manager (GM) Khandaker Shahidul Islam, among others, were present.
The minister left Panchagarh for Dhaka by the same train.
Railways sources said the non-stop train is capable of crossing 93 km in 10 hours. It will leave Panchagarh at 12:15pm and will reach Dhaka at 10:35pm. From Dhaka, it will leave at 12:10am and will reach Panchagarh at 10:45am.
The train will make stopover at Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Parbatipur and Dhaka Airport Railway Station.
DHAKA: The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) said poverty rate in the country stands at 21.8 percent while extreme poverty rate at 11.3 percent.
BBS Director General Dr. Krishna Gayen came up with information at a press conference organized on publication of the final data of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) project on Monday (May 13).
BBS director general, at the press conference, said the country’s poverty rate has come down for the development of the government. The poverty rate fell as economic growth accelerated.

Noted singer Subir Nandi passed away at a hospital in Singapore at 4:30 am on Tuesday, his daughter Falguni Nandi confirmed it to journalist.
He had been undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital for some days.
The health condition of singer Subir Nandi deteriorated as he suffered heart attack repeatedly.His health condition worsened once again on Saturday (yesterday) as he had suffered from multiple organ failure at the hospital.
His health condition slightly improved two days after he was taken to Singapore. Later, his condition worsened. During his treatment in Singapore, he suffered heart attack for three times. He also suffered heart attack during his treatment in Dhaka. Overall, his condition was deteriorating.
The results of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations will be published across the country on Monday.
“Education minister Dr Dipu Moni will publish the results of SSC and equivalent examinations at a program to be held at International Mother Language Institute at 10am tomorrow as the chairmen of all educational boards will hand over the summary of the results to her,” public relations office of the education ministry Abul Khair told BSS.
A total of 21, 35,333 students – 10, 64, 892 girls and 10, 70, 441 boys- appeared at the SSC and equivalent examinations this year under the country’s 10 education boards.

The National University has postponed Sunday’s exams at all the colleges under the university.
The announcement came on Saturday after cyclone Fani hit Bangladesh damaging hundreds of homes and crops on swathes of coastal and northwestern districts.
The new dates for the exams will be announced later, Acting Exam Controller Badruzzaman said.
The National University also postponed exams of Saturday after the storm lashed India.
Over 1.3 million people in the coastal districts were moved to cyclone shelters, which include educational institutions, to avoid casualties.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary M Akram Al-Hossain has announced to reduce the schedule during the attendance of teachers and students in primary school.
He said this at a meeting with the primary teachers at the Collectorate School ground in Chuadanga district on Friday.
Secretary said that it is not possible to accept new routine students.
For a long time, small children do not want to go to school. Likewise, teachers’ mentality is difficult to keep up. According to the class routine, a child has to come to school at 9 am. And at 4:00 pm. He said a plan to shift all schools is going on. The changes that will be made in one shift will be changed. If it is possible in 5000 schools in the first phase, then 5000 schools will be implemented.
