Dhaka University (DU) is all set to hold its 53rd convocation today.

The event will be presided over by chancellor of the university, President Abdul Hamid.

He will join the event in-person at the central playground of DU, said his press secretary Md Joynal Abedin.

Nobel laureate French economist Prof Jean Tirole will address the event as the convocation speaker. He will be awarded with honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

The convocation will begin at 12:00pm after a rally at 11:55am.

A total of 30,248 graduates and researchers will take part in the convocation, said Prof Dr Akhtaruzzaman, vice chancellor of DU.

Students from seven DU affiliated colleges will join the convocation through videoconferencing from two venues– Dhaka College and Eden Mohila College.

Of the participants, a total of 22,287 students will attend the convocation in-person at DU campus and 7, 796 will take part virtually from Dhaka College and Eden College venues.

A total of 131 teachers, students and researchers will be conferred with 153 gold medals while 97 will receive Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees and 35 Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degrees.
