Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have signed a new labour agreement making it mandatory for all migrant workers to obtain a digitally verified job offer and contract before traveling.
Saudi Minister for Human Resources Ahmad Bin Solaiman Al-Rajhi announced the deal, signed on October 6 in Riyadh with Bangladesh’s Expatriates’ Welfare Adviser Prof Asif Nazrul.
The agreement prohibits recruitment agencies and employers from charging unauthorized fees or deducting costs from workers’ salaries.
It also mandates that all wages be paid directly into workers’ bank accounts, ensuring financial transparency and protection.
Domestic workers will benefit from defined roles, fair terms, and per-departure job-readiness training, the Saudi ministry said.
A joint technical committee will meet regularly to oversee implementation, review challenges, and recommend improvements.
The new agreement follows earlier pacts in 2015 (domestic worker recruitment) and 2022 (skill verification).
Currently, about 2.5 million Bangladeshis work in Saudi Arabia.
