The Election Commission (EC) has ordered to remain important branches of scheduled banks open on Friday and Saturday to facilitate the transactions for the 12th national election.
EC Deputy Secretary Md Atiar Rahman sent a letter to the Bangladesh Bank governor on Wednesday (January 3).
According to the letter, the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election will be held on 7 January. The EC will need to transact and withdraw cash during the two days before the polling day. Hence, it will be necessary to keep such scheduled banks open at the district and upazila levels including in Dhaka, Chattogram and other metropolises with a limited number of manpower.
The EC also said bank officers or employees who have been assigned for election duties not to engage in banking activities.
