Student torture at IU: 5 students suspended including BCL leader Sanjida

The authorities of Islamic University (IU) have suspended a leader and four activists of Islamic University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student organization of ruling Awami League, for their involvement in the assault on a fresher Fulpori Khatun of the university.

This decision was taken at the university disciplinary committee meeting on Saturday afternoon.

University Proctor Shahadat Hossain confirmed this information.

The five students are IU Chhatra League Vice President Sanjida Chowdhury Ontora of the statistics department, and activists Tabassum Islam of the finance and banking department, Israt Zahan Meem of the law department, Halima Khatun Urmi of the fine arts department and Moabiya of the finance and banking department.

Shahadat Hossain said that the meeting was held at the vice-chancellor’s office on Saturday from 12pm to 1:45pm. Sheikh Abdus Salam, vice-chancellor of the university presided over it.

The meeting decided to issue show cause notices to the accused five students.
